Meals with Friends

Finally had the chance to try Vernick Food & Drink after booking a reservation almost three weeks in advance. Our group of four was seated at a well-lit table right next to the open kitchen, arguably the best seats in the house. The meal that followed was honestly an amazing culinary experience - having four people in our group meant that we were able to order a large portion of the menu and, being Asians, we were no strangers to sharing food.

View of the open kitchen from our table!
First time trying orange wine (only had a taste) - a white wine variety where the grapes have spent considerable maceration time in contact with the grape skins. Interesting experience, it had the subtle richness of a smooth red, but dry like a white wine
Top: Our amuse bouches, a potato leek soup and fresh tuna
Bottom: Raw arctic char, crispy skin, dill
Top: Sea urchin, warm scrambled eggs; Beef tartare (on toast), fresh horseradish
Bottom: Island Creek Oysters, ginger & citrus; Maryland Crab (on toast)
Maple-brined pork belly & pear salad; Tagliatelle, braised duck & chanterelles
Sides: Brussels sprouts, ancho caramel; Black pepper roasted cauliflower
Top: Braised beef cheek, porcini polenta & glazed root vegetables; Seafood & shellfish roast, green chili sausage
Bottom: Roasted pork chop, sweet potato & spiced cabbage

Everything was amazing, and the dishes came out at a nice pace, progressing from the lighter raw plates to the heavier large dishes. The portions seem small (and we were also sharing between four people), but I was beyond stuffed by the time our last dishes came out and could only eat a few bites of the beef cheek, which was perfectly rich and succulent. My favorites of the night? The arctic char, sea urchin, beef tartare, and beef cheek. We had heard that dessert always fell a bit short of expectations, so we opted for Yogorino around the corner instead afterwards. All in all though, cheers to a great meal with friends.
